Lee is Leaving!!

Known for his bad beats on me (you know I was kidding... just need a spot to vent my bad beats), but overall, probably a very nice guy in general, Stars Poker Room Manager is leaving Stars. Here is a final message from Mr. Jones himself:

Hi all –

It is with great delight and profound regret that I announce that, effective April 1st, 2007, I will no longer be the poker room manager at PokerStars. [1]

The good news is that I am still going to be part of the PokerStars family. I will be working for John Duthie in the EPT (European Poker Tour), doing organization, hosting, and TV commentary. Furthermore, I will still be working as a consultant for PokerStars, helping with some PokerStars events, such as the PCA (PokerStars Caribbean Adventure) at the Atlantis (Resort) and the World Cup of Poker. And I will show up sometimes at Sunday Million and WCOOP (World Championship of Online Poker) final tables.

Why the change? Well, it’s a wonderful opportunity for me to expand my horizons and stretch some new muscles. I will be at all the EPT events, doing final table announcing, and commentary on the TV shows and webcasts. [2] I love meeting and hanging out with the players, so this will be great fun for me. And it will give me time to do some other projects, including actually playing a little poker!

Of course, the regret comes from leaving a job that I’ve had, and loved, for three and a half years. I’ve gotten to watch PokerStars go from a promising enterprise in third place on the online poker ladder to the clear market leader; and working hard daily to stay there. The people at PokerStars are an extraordinary bunch and I’ve been honored to be part
of that team. I’m not going to start naming names for two reasons: (1) I’d be sure to leave out a really important name, and (2) there are simply too many of them. But from the senior management to the customer service representatives, these people have become not only colleagues but friends. I will miss acutely the day-to-day interaction with them.

I will also miss the day-to-day contact with the thousands of PokerStars players that I’ve come to know via email. The support you’ve given me these past years has been overwhelming and I am quite humbled by it. Furthermore, you’ve been quick to provide constructive criticism when I’ve made a wrong turn, and that’s just as important. I trust that you will provide my successor [3] with the same support and constructive criticism that you’ve given me.

But as I said, I’ll still be around. I’ll be at plenty of live events (particularly in Europe) ... .

But for now, I’ll sign off as I have since October of 2003, proud to say …

Best regards,

Lee Jones
PokerStars Poker Room Manager

[1] No, this is not an April Fool’s joke.

[2] The first webcast, from the Dortmund, Germany EPT, was the nuts — people loved it. We’re going to do it from Monte Carlo too and it will be bigger and better.

[3] That person is yet to be named, but we’ve got a few *really* good candidates.

Mega Monday!!

To top off 24 and WWE Raw tonight, the new season of Dancing with the Stars debuts tonight. I didn't think last season could have topped the previous one but it did and right now, I'm thinking it won't but I am interested in seeing NBA Hall of Famer and former Blazer great Clyde "The Glide" Drexler and former Miss USA and Lingo co-host Shandi Finnessey (yum-yum, hubba-hubba) shake her grove thang!! Oh and co-host Samantha Harris (sounds like an ugly-chick name) is scorching hot too!! Plus, I got 2 finals tomorrow, I think I'm screwed!!

Blazer Game a Stinker... Mavs/Suns Madness!!

The Blazer game was a HUGE disappointment... enough said... Caught the last few minutes of the 4th quarter of the highly anticipated Suns/Mavs game which ended up going to double OT as well!! My god what a game!! Although Dirk is probably the favorite to win the MVP this year, I gotta say watching this game and both players, I wouldn't be surprised to see Nash 3-peat... Did you see those two plays in the 2nd OT where he got off the floor and took a charge IMMEDIATELY and then the inbounds play to Jason Terry... got his hand on the ball and threw it of JT and then pulled a "Matrix" (no not Shawn Marion... the movie this time) to not let the ball touch him... UNREAL!! Oh and don't did I mention, his 32 points and 16 dimes along with the game-tying three in the 4th quarter...??!! And how about Amare Stoudamire... "Man Beast"!! This guy is something special... So many times bounching off people and it having no effect on his accuracy and the improvement of his jump shooting... I say just like the Steelers 2 years ago and the Colts this year in football and of course, just like the Miami Heat last year (doing it the hard way by winning at Detroit and Dallas), I think it very well may be Phoenix's time to really shine...

Sheed is Back Tonight!!

My bad boy and former Blazer Rasheed Wallace is back tonight to take on our beloved Blazers! This will be the 1st time I'm not rooting for Sheed since he moved to Detroit all b/c that idiot Flipper Saunders had to hire his former assistant coach from his T'Wolves day and former Blazer and slim ball Terry Porter. I hope you go for a monster double-double Sheed but its the Blazers that will hopefully come out on top with the rise of LaMarcus Aldridge and of course Brandon Roy and my fav. rookie Sergio Rodriquez!! It should be a doozy tonight!!

Fucking River... Goddamit Lee!!!

You see that man on the left... The poker (devil) god Lee "Harvey Oswald" Jones. In the pic, it appears that he is having a good time laughing about the torture he has put me through...

I may have been crushed preflop but "fucking a" Lee... I get my money in as Mike Sexton says "in a dominating position" and I am thinking Antonio Esfandari's saying, "ONE TIME!!" and this is how he treats me... again...

A Blog about MySpace

The hip thing right now is this MySpace thing that people create and keep in touch with their friends and family... but beware of all the hackers out there too... For the last 10 minutes or so, I've gotten 25 friend requests (and counting) from hot women with webcams, nude sites, etc (Something for you Steve "Shark" Hathaway)... but think twice, as there could be some hackers and/or viruses from the unknown. Another bad thing about this is that for every new friend, you will receive an email confirmation about your new friend request (I really don't know how people with 1,000+ friends can stand this)... Anybody have some techniques to block this jokers?

My Bad: Paul Wasicka Vindication

I early posted on how tight and weak Paul Wasicka has been playing mainly after watching the first 6 episodes of High Stakes Poker Season 3... But I must take back what I wrote and give the guy some kudos. He has loosened up and is making good plays and is proving why he finished 2nd in the 2006 WSOP Main Event, 4th in LAPC, and 1st in the NBC HU Championship. Keep it up Paul and congrats!!

Thoughts on The NBC Heads Up Championship

If you were betting longshots on recent NBC Heads Up Championships which just concluded yesterday (but will air in 7 weeks), a bet on either the very sexay Shannon Elizabeth or the very boring Paul Wasicka would have been some heavy moneymakers (I know the pros had their own prop bets of their own filling out brackets)... Believe it or not, The American Pie (one of my favorite series of movies, excluding American Pie: The Naked Mile) bombshell would make it to the final four and would be up against... yup you guessed it, Mr. Tedious Paul Wasicka... You know who I'm pulling for... and Elizabeth would even manage a 5-to-1 chip lead... Wasicka had to have been a luckbox to survive this (poker gods know how unskilled he is... just look at him on High Stakes Poker Season 3... Not only that, I don't think he's said a word with the exception to the A7 vs A10 hand vs. Brian Townsend. He's literally folded every hand I've seen and think that origami would be a good profession for him). Courteously from Card Player, here are some examples of Paul's great (cough, cough) "skill":

Paul vs. Nam Le where Le had all his chips in at least three times as a favorite to knock Wasicka out and couldn't

* Paul Wasicka moves all in preflop and Nam Le makes the call. Wasicka shows A2 but Le turns over A6. However, the board comes (Js, 10h, 4d, Qd, 2c) and Wasicka rivers a pair of deuces to win the pot and double to $220,000 chips.

* Paul Wasicka moves all in preflop and Nam Le makes the call. Wasicka shows A6 and Le turns over A7. The board comes (Kh, Js, 9s, 4h, Qc) and they chop the pot.

* Paul Wasicka moves all in and Nam Le makes the call. Wasicka shows KJ and Le turns over A2. The board comes (Ks,5c, 4c, 9s, Js) and Wasicka pairs his king to win the pot and double up.

Paul vs. Shannon Elizabeth
Wasicka now has $280,000 chips to Le's $40,000.

* Shannon Elizabeth raises from the button preflop and Paul Wasicka moves all in. Elizabeth asks for a count and is told that Wasicka is all in for $135,000 more. Elizabeth makes the call and shows AQ. Wasicka turns over 1010. The board comes QJ6KA and Wasicka rivers a straight to win the pot and double up.

Sure Wasicka finished 2nd in the WSOP Main Event last year through a landmine of donks, and his finish at the LA Poker Classic was great, but through ALL his TV appearances, I really haven't seen much of skill from this guy... I'm just anxious to see the LAPC and the NBC HU Championship on TV now to see if I'm wrong on this...
