Holy potatoes Batman!! This is the first time I've done this nba.com bracket thing and every year before when I didn't, it seems like I got every damn pick right... Well, right now, I am facing two miss-picks (see post below) as I should have seen a beaten up and injured Dwayne Wade Miami Heat should have been no contest to the young-gun Chicago Bulls. BUT a sweep... I don't think anybody could have seen that one coming... And of course, the best series out of all the series has to be the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks... I knew Golden State had gotten the better of the Mavs since Nellie was coaching against his former team (Even 5 str8 victories vs. the Mavs. before the playoff series I believe)... Well, now it's 3-1: B-diddy (Barron Davis) and J-Rich leading the "ultimate" Warriors in which I now believe, will be another upset and bracket buster... Thus, both teams from last year's finals will be eliminated in the first round (what, this isn't hockey or baseball now...).
I still am keeping my finals pick as the Spurs and Pistons (with the Spurs winning in 7) although I wouldn't be surprised if the Pistons lost to the scorching-hot Bulls... The second round of the playoffs should be interesting as the Bulls vs. Pistons and the Suns vs. Spurs series both will determine the NBA Finals participants before the Division Conference Finals... just a hunch...

TNA Impact 4/26/07
Well, this week's Impact was a little let down after last week's five-star show, mainly the Sting vs. Kurt Angle match. Two legends, about a 5 minute match, and a screw-job ending. I guess that should have been suspected because it wasn't a PPV and it was the 1st match of the night. Of course, there were some good highlights.
If you miss "Macho Man" Randy Savage, "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal is the perfect substitute for him... Lethal is by far a more agile wrestler and now that he has Macho's gimmick, it's brilliant... From entrance, to signature moves, to voice impressions, you couldn't tell the difference... other than that he is black... Here is a brief highlight of Machismo from yesterday:
And of course, the highlight of the night... The segment between Robert Roode (with the scorching hot Ms. Brooks) and Erick Young. Finally, Erick takes a stand and clocks Roode and not only that, he POWERBOMBS Ms. Brooks. If that wasn't enough, JEFF JARRETT is Erick's friend!! Oh man this is too much, but awesome of course... BUT wait... there's more that makes this segment even better: How about a guiter shot to Traci Brooks!! Check on the guitar shot here:

I'm Fed Up w/this FTP Joke!!
It never ceases to amaze me about FTP... They have outdone Party and Stars for worst bad beats for me and I'm considering discontinuing with contributing my rake toward there gnarly BB (bad beat) specials...

Impact with a Ton of Impact!!
TNA Impact Review and Thoughts from Last Night
Yesterday's TNA Impact was definitely a star-studded show! It started with an interview with the new Jeff Jarrett and to the surprise of me, the crowd starts a "Welcome back" chant to him. Who would have ever thought the day would come where we'd here that? Jeff explains why he is a new man and why he let Sting of all people, get the win and title shot... This, of course, causes Kurt Angle to come out, and of course, he is dissatisfied about Jeff not letting Kurt get the pin so he'd get the title shot... Thus, Sting comes out and now we are set for a dream matchup of Sting vs. Kurt Angle... but next week... Why not later tonight for the main event? Ah, but the best was yet to come...
The Daniels, Styles, Rhino, and Samoa Joe 4-way match looked to be another dream match (i.e. Daniels vs. Styles vs. Joe at Destination X a year ago), but it was ok... Amazing to note how Daniels and Styles about 2 months ago were top faces and now are top heels but it's working although I don't quite get why Daniels is wearing a Sting mask and carrying a bat to when goes to the ring and says nothing backstage... Just as the old black and white Sting in WCW only that he was a face... I wonder if Sting will have anything to say about Daniels bizarre behavior or better yet, will Daniels one day attack Sting?!
Is was good to see Chris Harris back in action and I must say, "Giggity-giggity" Gail Kim!! Also saw the clips from Lockdown of her and damn, she (and Jackie Moore) are some tough mammas!! To continue the fued, Jackie attacks Gail before Harris' match w/Rude and they brawl in the crowd!! Thus, Harris is left alone to face Robert Rude (w/Ms. Brooks and Eric Young) and of course, cheats his way to win... Rude let's Young have it after the match and wants to know who Eric's "Friend" is... since Eric says it's not fellow Canadian Petey Williams... Interesting...
And then, the main event, Abyss and Christian Cage vs. the new NWA Tag Champs Team 3D (coming off the dubya vs. my favorite tag team LAX) with a bonus of Konnan doing color commentary which was brilliant!! Decent match, but the best was yet to come after the match... Of course, James Mitchell and Christian's friends were tried of Abyss and blaming him for their loses and told him that this was his last chance... Of course, Abyss knocked Christian off the top rope inadvertently and was pinned. Christian gets into Abyss' face and then Abyss decks him (crowd goes wild)! Abyss sets up to hit the Shock Treatment (one of my fav. moves) but James Mitchell stops him and threatens to call the cops... So Abyss stops but then is bitch-slapped by Mitchell and thus, Abyss grabs Mitchell by the throat and teases to chokeslam Mitchell only to get attacked by Christian's Coalition (ah predicted as they always tease to attack a manager but get prevented)... However, Abyss would fight back and would be all alone w/Mitchell! Mitchell takes out his cell and Abyss gives a John McEnroe backhand to the phone and then Blackhole Slames Mitchell!! (What, that's not suppose to happen unless a PPV)!! Avasts, that's not all... The coalition returns and Christian hits a sick chairshot on Abyss that immediately cuts Abyss open (I think they grabbed the wrong chair for this accidently). Everyone would get a chairshot in and then the barbwire bat was brought into play!! This is were you expect somebody like Sting, Angle, Rhino, Joe, somebody to come down to the ring to save Abyss before he gets slugged but to another shocking development, no help arrived and Abyss he decimated w/barbie... Immediate blood shots to both arms (sickening) from Christian and then a "Conchairto" with special guest Barbie to the face/arm!! PPV quality here indeed.
For those of you wrestling fans that missed the brutality, shame on you, but there is a chance to still catch snippets of them here:
Overall, great show full of surprises and wrestling action... Next week looks to be another good show in the making... Can't wait!!

Rough Start of Day, But One Great Hand to End the Night
I've been getting pounded by two-outers and hands that I've had dominated preflop losing to on sick turns or rivers the past few days... Well today, I was on the end another end of the pole with losing hands to slightly better hands (Don't worry, I won't bore you with a post of a bad beat here).
Tried a few hands at low limit Stud H/L on FTP, a game that I a fish at but wanted to get away from hold'em... Started off ok at the .50-1 table and ended up almost $20 ahead! Decided to open a $1-2 table as well and that's where it went downhill... There was one hand where I got dealt three 8s to start and limped in (big mistake)... My opponent held 7-2-7 and hit what looked to be an innocent 2 on the first draw and on the rest of the streets, the cards where bricks... but on the river, he spiked a hidden 7 to fill up and beat my trips...
Moved to Stars and sat down at a .5-1 PL Omaha Table. The table was about to get juicy as THEPIRAT would sit down and raise EVERY hand and pot everything after... I decided to play this doozy and with Lee no longer at Stars (joking... I like you Lee), the poker god would give me a one time:

How the Hell Could We Beat the Sonics?!
Well, this shouldn't come as a shocker, but Portland Trail Blazers Basketball is once again (I guess always) is an enigma to me... Tonight game vs. the Sonics was a HUGE game FOR US TO LOSE as both Seattle and Portland had the same record going into this game. The loser will most likely end up with the 5th worst record in the NBA, and thus, have a better shot at getting Kevin Durant or Yi Jianlian from this coming draft. You figure with Portland playing without stars Zach Randolph, LaMarcus Aldridge, and even Brandon Roy tonight that this would be an automatic loss... But fucking Jarrett Jack, Travis Outlaw, and even the disappointing Martel Webster had to go off today and be superstars...
With this win, we are now a full game up on the Sonics and our lottery stock has dropped from 5th to possibly 9th at the end (We are now tied record-wise with the T-Wolves, Kings, and Knicks and half a game behind the Bobcats)!! WTF are we thinking?! Now Blazer Belivers (you are one if you know what's good for the future of the team and that right now is to get a higher draft pick), we have to hope to lose both are remaining games at Utah and vs. the Warriors, which is doable and must hope that the Sonics win one or both of their remaining games, which looks impossible being at the Lakers and then at Dallas (basically an automatic loss)... As in the words of Antonio Esfandiari... "ONE TIME"!!
As for next year, here are some tips for Nate McMillian (read the notes on Sergio Rodriquez and Travis Outlaw)

Jarrett Joins Team Angle
It was a crazy Impact last night that saw Jeff Jarrett turn face (means good guy) for the first time in ages...
For those that missed the madness (or the 3 of you that care that read this), you can check it out here:
This was sick too... Konnan shoots a stun gun at Runt
And while you at it, check out the Sonjay Dutt/Chris Sabin match (final 6 minutes of video or so). 5-star match

TNA IMPACT Tonight
Well, obviously, TNA has become more of a soap opera since re-hiring Vince... Vince Rousso that is, but still, the wrestling is still more stellar than that of the WWE's. Rousso has been mixing it up with the storylines with some good (ok, a few) and some bad (more than a few)... The sudden Petey Williams turn to a good guy is still mind-boggling to me as that guy was a phenomenal heel (bad guy). The same could have been said about AJ Styles sudden heel turn, but damn, that guy is an even better heel than face IMO...
And now, from reading rumors, the BIGGEST curve ball of them all... This is my prediction and could be a spoiler alert so if you don't want to know yet and want to wait until 9PM on Spike TV, stop reading now...
Ok, I hope this is a big enough gap for the 2 of my wrestling fans that actually read this. Team Angle is suppose to unveil it's 5th member tonight for the Lethal Lockdown cage match... Word going around that the 5th member is "The King of The Mountain" Jeff Jarrett... Now, being that Jarrett is arguably the most hated wrestler in TNA (maybe even in wrestling overall), I don't see how this would work, but then again, Vince Rousso is in charge of it...
Jarrett was last seen at the Bound for Glory PPV last year losing the NWA Title to Sting... If Jarrett where to join Team Angle, not only would he be aligning himself with Angle (the man that refereed the BFG match and basically cost Jarrett the title) and Rhino (Rhino won the NWA title from Jarrett but regained it and they have had their shares of battles), but he'd be teaming with Sting himself...
It definitely looks like to be a juicy Impact tonight and the way things have been with Rousso, I wouldn't be surprised if Jarrett was the 5th member... but how will the fans react to that... (boo him like the WWE fans boo John Cena?) Tune into Spike TV at 9PM tonight for the wrestling drama and suspense!!

ONE TIME!!
Ok, this isn't a poker related post. This is about my beloved Blazers. Let's face it... Our season is over now and right now, I think the best thing for the team to do is to "tank" (means to lose on purpose) so we can have a shot at the # 2 draft pick (not even number 1)... The reason I say this is because as of today, AP College Player of the Year Kevin Durant has declared that he is headed to the NBA!! You know the saying, "Stay in school... It's your best move." Well, that's not true... (Just look at the (young guns) dropouts that have made it big in poker)... i.e. Kobe, KG, Jermaine O'Neil, and Amare Stoudamire to name a few superstars. And how about Joakim Noah for NOT going into the NBA last season... Boy has his stock plummeted since then...
Not only is Durant a superstar in the making, he'll probably get a "phat" endorsement deal from Nike (and others) that will make him millions before playing... The good life... Why should he stay in college? To risk a possible injury next season and then get no endorsements or maybe even no NBA future... You can't risk injury or turn down the dream of a lifetime...
Currently, the Blazers have the 7th worst record in the NBA with 5 games remaining. If we tank and lose the rest of our games, we'll finish with a "worthy" 31 - 51, still 10 games better than last season which will tie us w/the Bucks... that is, if the Bucks win the rest of their games which is highly likely... Tanking can probably get us to the 4th or 5th worst which will give us that much more of a chance of getting "the man" (remember, the Blazers had the best chance of getting the # 1 pick last year and didn't where the 4th worst team in Toronto did so the 4th worst spot is not out of the question. Remember, it's # 2 I ask for, not necessarily # 1)...
In poker, it's called full-tilt... Now in this Blazer scenario, I'll call it Full-tank mode and dammit, let's lose the rest of our games so we have a shot at Kevin Durant!!

9,500TC at break (good for 5th place) ..with 7 to go... Next blind level will be 1,500 and 3,000... Yikes... It's basically an all-in luck fest for me now...

Out in 4th for a $200 payday... It won't let me copy and paste the final hand for some reason but it wasn't pretty as I flopped a set vs. A-A only for an Ace to peel on the turn...

SnGs = Same Results
Actually, this hand reminded me of the 2006 WPT Reno event were Jason Stern got it all-in preflop vs. Michael Simon's K6... Stern the dominating 3-1 favorite over Simon (at least 3 times but the results were the same), unfortunately, Stern would get rivered...

New Season of The World Poker Tour TONIGHT!!
Well, finally, the new season of the WPT debuts tonight on the Travel Channel at 6 PST!! Recalling the Card Player coverages of the events, I can't wait to see JC Tran tear it up. He has been on a mission and has been slick-smooth running over his competition as a zamboni over the hockey rink. His accomplishments thus far in this new WPT season include a whooping 3 final tables: a 3rd, a 2nd at the LAPC (good for over a million payday), and a recent 1st at the Reno event!! The season also features a historical event as a woman and and current WPT Ladies Night Champ JJ Liu makes makes another final table and winds up headsup (the furthest of any women) for a chance to win the Bay 101 vs. Ted Forrest.
I still love High Stakes Poker more, but the WPT, in my opinion, has the best tournament coverage of all tourny broadcasts along with the best poker commentators. Also, we will see the new set along with new host, Sabina Gadecki try to feel the shoes of one Shana Hiatt (shouldn't be to hard to fill Courtney Friel's shoes...)
